Mexican Fix

This is not about an occasional visit to Tijuana Joe's to get my Mexican food fix.

This is about two huge problems our nation is currently experiencing.

1.  We are hosting 20 million illegal aliens we don't need, most of whom are Mexicans.

2.  NAFTA mandates that Mexican truck drivers can go straight from Mexico to points in the USA or Canada with their loads of cheap Mexican goods, and not have to observe US and Canadian safety and emission standards.

These two, seemingly intractable, problems can easily be solved by levering one against the other.

When a Mexican truck driver delivers a load of goods in the USA or Canada, he must be required to carry a load of Mexicans back with him!

They can go back the same way they came, and therefore, their treatment will be consistent with Mexican government treatment of its citizens in their home country.

You see?  There are good solutions lurking out there.  All you have to do is think out of the truck box.

Once again, it gets real easy, real quick.

      Thanks for you comment, Gary.

Eveybody seems to be taking this view.  But, I don't know of any job in Chicago or Atlanta that would not be filled by people who have legal status as citizens.  The issue is pay.

We enjoy a lot of cheap prices because of illegal, cheap, Mexican labor.

My contention is that when we get rid of the Mexicans, there may be a little bump in inflation, but, the economy will be able to weather the storm.  The free market will adjust, and the bumps will smooth-out over time.  In the mean time, you will pay a little more for your landscaping and lettuce.

The biggest storm will be feel-good liberals whining about how the illegal Mexicans are being treated.

These so-called liberals never had to compete for a job at the bottom of the food chain were the price of labor is critical.  I haven't been at the bottom of the food chain, either, but, I sent myself to college to avoid that situation.

There are still many millions of American citizens who have not been to college, and are at the bottom of the food chain.

It is not fair to poor people in general to allow the illegal alien labor issue to continue.

      Regards,

      Bob

Well, we have lots of illegals in Chicago. In fact there was a protest march of over 100,000 people and none got arrested. There were Polish, Ukraine, Irish, Russian, etc all marching to be allowed to get documented and pay their taxes. If we can't get rid of them, why not register them and make them pay all our taxes? Isn't this how the USA got started?

          Hey, Gary.

Yeah.  I knew that argument was out there, somewhere.  Back when "we got started", there was no established nation, society, or economy.  There were just hugh expanses of land, populated by a few Indians.  Comparing immigrants today with those of Colonial America, or similar periods, is an oranges to apples comparison.

I agree that we can absorb lots of people, and there is nothing wrong with immigration.  The situaton we have today is that a lousy country south of the border is using the USA as an economic relief valve.  We are getting Mexico's problems.

Mexicans are in fact economic slave labor.

We will never be able to plug all the holes in the border, but, we can stop 99% of the flow of the illegals.  By effectively bottleing up Mexico's problems in Mexico, their day of reckoning will be hastened, and the Mexican government will be forced to implement reforms.  It will be that or civil war.  You can't starve all the people all the time.

By the way, how did all those Poles and Russians get in the country?

Thanks for you comment.  It is always appreciated.

Well I am 1/2 Polish and 1/2 Russian by decent. My relatives came across in boats. I guess you could call it sneaking across because they came with no papers. Ellis Island let them in. If it hadn't happened that way, I woulodn't be in the USA myself. Back then there really wasn't any need to be declared a citizen. I guess they could have been considered illegals but at Ellis Island they just let them in.
Maybe we should go back to those days where we just keep count of all the illegals. If they want to pay taxes, its better than your solution of just paying to send them all back. We could also send them to Iraq to help fight the war for us. Do you like that idea?

              Good points.

There are non-citizen Mexicans in the US Army fighting in Iraq.  That's great, and citizenship should be automatic for them.

My big thing is control.  Maybe there is no solution for the illegal problem, but I thing we have to try.

Mexico is a pretty rich country in natural resources, and the populace is one of the poorest.  Since the Mexicans are pouring over the border in huge numbers, it is obvious that the USA is a pretty good place compared to other places.

I am not sure when my forebearers arrived in America.  Most probably, it was at an East Coast port, and probably in Virginia.  However, there are those of my surname in Massachusetts that can trace their ancestry to England, and they even know the boats that the ancestors were on.  We have not made a connection from our Southern branches to the Northern branches.

Maybe they crossed over the Bering Land Bridge from Siberia with the rest of the "original" immigrants.
